AKW Shower Screens for Shower Trays: The Complete Standard Range

The standard AKW shower screen range is the practical backbone of accessible showering. Made with lightweight, shatterproof PET glazing in a white/silver frame, these screens are tough, easy to handle and kind on the budget - which is exactly why they are so widely specified for care homes, assisted bathrooms and adapted homes. Here is the full standard range explained, and how to choose between the options.

Why PET (and why half-height)?

PET is a shatterproof plastic glazing used in place of glass. It is far lighter, impact-resistant and safe in a care environment where a heavy glass panel would be a hazard. Most standard AKW screens are half-height "carer" screens: they protect the showering area from splashes while leaving the top open, so a carer can comfortably assist the person showering without getting soaked. Several options also come in taller, more enclosed formats for users who want a more conventional shower.

The standard AKW screen options

Each option below is a single "All Sizes" listing - choose your width, height and handing on the product page, where every AKW code and barcode is shown.

  • Option B - a core half-height carer screen for shower trays.
  • Option C - half-height screen with an alternative panel configuration.
  • Option D - half-height screen for larger tray layouts.
  • Option E - one of the most popular half-height screens, in 750mm and 900mm heights, non-handed, left or right hand.
  • Option E5 - the Option E format supplied complete with a matching shower curtain and rail for full water containment.
  • Option H - half-height carer screen available across a wide range of widths.
  • Option HF - a full-height 1880mm screen for a more enclosed shower while keeping easy access.
  • Option J - a versatile screen suitable for both shower trays and wet floors.

How to choose your standard screen

Height

Half-height screens are typically 750mm or 900mm - the open top is what keeps a carer dry during assisted showering. If you would rather a fully enclosed shower, the 1880mm Option HF is the full-height choice.

Handing

Non-handed screens suit either side of the room; left-hand and right-hand versions are made for a specific layout. If you are unsure, measure which wall the fixed panel needs to fix to.

Curtain and rail

Need complete splash containment? The Option E5 arrives with a curtain and rail included.

Pair it with the AKW Braddan tray

These screens are designed to sit on a low-access tray. We recommend the AKW Braddan shower tray (all sizes) - low-profile, anti-slip and available in the full size range, so you can match tray and screen perfectly in one order.

Prefer a premium finish?

If you want the same accessibility with toughened glass and a smarter grey frame, see the AKW Silverdale range, or read our AKW shower screens buying guide to compare the two side by side.
