Pressalit PLUS height-adjustable shower seat with backrest and armrests on a wall track

Pressalit PLUS Explained: The Wall-Track Bathroom That Adapts to You

Most accessible equipment is fixed where it is drilled. Pressalit PLUS — also known as the CareSystem Plus — is different: it is a platform of wall-mounted tracks onto which basins, support arms, shower seats and shelves clip, slide and reposition. The result is a bathroom that flexes around a changing user instead of being torn out and rebuilt every couple of years. This guide explains how it works, what is in the range, and how to specify it.

The idea behind PLUS: a track, not a fixing

Think of PLUS as a rail system for the bathroom. Instead of bolting each item to a fixed point on the wall, you mount load-rated tracks, and the equipment attaches to those tracks. That single design decision unlocks everything the system is known for:

  • Height adjustment — equipment moves up and down the vertical track to suit a seated or standing user.
  • Sideways movement — a shower seat or grab rail slides along a horizontal track to suit a left- or right-sided transfer, or moves clear to make room for a carer.
  • Reconfiguration — as needs change, you reposition or add components on the existing track rather than re-drilling tiles and re-plumbing.
Why it matters: For progressive conditions, this is the single most cost-effective decision you can make. The expensive, disruptive work — the structural fixings into the wall — is done once. After that, the room adapts in minutes.

How the track system works

Vertical tracks (VERT)

Vertical PLUS tracks carry equipment that needs height adjustment — most often a washbasin bracket or a support arm. The user or carer raises and lowers the item along the track to the right working height. These tracks are the backbone of the seated-and-standing washbasin solution.

Horizontal wall tracks

Horizontal tracks let equipment travel sideways along the wall. In a shower corner, a seat and its grab rails can be slid toward or away from the controls, repositioned for a left- or right-handed transfer, or moved aside entirely so the space can be used as a standing shower. This is the feature that makes one shower work for several different users.

SELECT side profiles

The PLUS support arms are also designed to work with Pressalit's SELECT side profiles, giving you a fixed, robust mounting point for counterbalanced arms beside a toilet. It is the bridge between the simpler SELECT range and the fully flexible PLUS platform.

What's in the PLUS range

Component What it does
Washbasin brackets Mount a basin to a vertical track for manual or powered height adjustment, bringing the basin within reach of a seated user and back up for a standing one.
Counterbalanced support arms Fold-down arms beside the toilet that take the user's weight on transfer. Available left- or right-hand operated and in a choice of lengths (e.g. 700 mm) to suit the layout.
Shower seats Fold-away seats — including powered, height- and sideways-adjustable models — that mount on horizontal track for full positioning flexibility.
Shower changing tables Wall-mounted, fold-down changing benches for older children and adults, manual or powered, central to a Changing Places facility.
Modular shelves & accessories Shelves, rails and holders that clip onto the same track so storage sits exactly where the user needs it.

Manual or powered within PLUS

Many PLUS components come in both forms, and you can mix them within one room:

  • Counterbalanced / manual — gas-strut or counterbalanced movement that is light to operate but needs some input. Ideal where the user or carer has reasonable strength and the budget is tighter.
  • Powered / electric — height and sideways movement at the touch of a wired or wireless control. The right choice where strength or dexterity is limited, or in a high-use care setting where heights change constantly between a seated user and a standing carer.

Who PLUS is for

  • Domestic adaptations where a condition is progressive and the room needs to keep adapting over time.
  • Care homes and supported living, where one bathroom serves several residents with different needs and a carer must work safely.
  • Changing Places and public accessible toilets, where the powered shower changing table and adjustable equipment are part of the required specification.

How to specify PLUS

  1. Confirm the handing. Establish the user's stronger side and the transfer direction before choosing support arms and seats — most are handed.
  2. Plan the track runs. Decide where vertical and horizontal tracks need to go for the basin, toilet and shower zones, and how long each run should be.
  3. Choose manual or powered per item based on strength, frequency of use and budget — you can mix the two.
  4. Match the finish. PLUS components share a coordinated finish range so the room looks designed, not assembled.
  5. Check VAT relief. Most PLUS Care items qualify for VAT relief for eligible users — see below.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Pressalit PLUS and SELECT?

SELECT provides robust, fixed and powered components such as side profiles and toilet lifters. PLUS adds the full track platform on top — vertical and horizontal rails that let equipment adjust for height and slide sideways. The two are designed to work together, and PLUS support arms mount to SELECT side profiles.

Can PLUS equipment be repositioned after installation?

Yes — that is the whole point of the system. Once the tracks are mounted, components can be moved, swapped or added along the track without re-drilling the wall, which makes it ideal for users whose needs change over time.

Is Pressalit PLUS suitable for a Changing Places toilet?

Yes. The powered shower changing table and adjustable equipment in the PLUS range are commonly specified as part of a Changing Places facility, alongside a hoist and the other required fittings. See our Changing Places guide for the full specification.
