AKW Standard Wet Floor Shower Screens Explained

AKW standard wet floor screens: built for real-world accessible bathrooms

AKW's standard Option wet floor screens are the practical backbone of the accessible-bathroom world. Designed for level-access wet rooms with no shower tray, they deliver dependable splash protection in a tough, no-nonsense format that has been specified by the NHS, local authorities and occupational therapists for years.

What makes the standard range different

  • Shatterproof PET glazing — lightweight and impact-resistant in place of glass, so it's safe in a busy care environment and easy to handle on install.
  • Half-height design — the open, half-height format lets a carer assist from outside the spray and stay dry, which is exactly what assisted showering needs.
  • Curtain and rail included — each screen is supplied complete with a matching shower curtain and rail.
  • White / silver frame — a clean, neutral finish that blends into any bathroom.
  • Corrosion-resistant build — a rigid aluminium frame with watertight seals that direct water back into the showering area.

The panel shapes

The standard range is the broadest in the AKW screen line-up, with a panel shape for almost any wet room layout. Each is coded with a letter:

  • Option NW — a wide single straight panel, non-handed, ideal for a simple open wet room.
  • Option EW — larger square and rectangular formats, in non-handed and handed versions.
  • Option XW — handed (left or right) rectangular screens.
  • Option EW5 — a fixed 750mm-high handed format.
  • Option HFW — a full-height 1880mm single panel where you want maximum coverage.

…plus BW, HW, MW, PW, TTW, UW, ZW and ZUW formats for more specialist layouts. Most come in 750mm and 900mm screen heights across a wide span of widths.

Who it's for

Choose the standard range when practicality and value lead the brief: care homes, supported living, adapted family bathrooms and grant-funded (DFG) work. If you'd rather have toughened glass and a more upmarket finish, look at the AKW Silverdale wet floor screens instead — the same level-access job, premium look.

Complete the wet room

Pair your screen with an AKW wet floor former to create the graded, level-access base it needs: the AKW Tuff Form (All Sizes) or the AKW Tuff Form8 (All Sizes), matched to your floor build-up and waste position. For the full picture, see our complete guide to AKW wet floor shower screens.
