Choosing a wet floor shower screen comes down to one decision first: how much screen do you want? AKW's wet room screens come in two broad heights — half height and full height — and the right choice depends on who's using the shower, how they're assisted, and the feel you want in the room. Here's how to decide.
Choose a half height screen if a carer needs to assist from outside the showering area, or you want the most open, uncluttered space. Choose a full height screen if you want maximum splash control and a more enclosed, conventional shower feel. Both are designed for level-access wet floors with no tray to step over.
A half height screen stands at either 750mm or 900mm, covering the lower part of the showering area. Because the top is open, a carer can reach in to assist while staying dry — which is why half height screens are the go-to for assisted and carer-supported showering. They also keep the bathroom feeling bright and spacious.
AKW's half height range is extensive, with single panels, returns and corner formats to suit almost any layout. Explore the full line-up in our guide to AKW standard wet floor screens, or browse popular options like the versatile Option EW and the wide single-panel Option NW.
A full height screen rises to 1880mm — close to door height — for maximum splash protection and a more enclosed shower. It suits users who shower independently and want to keep water firmly contained, or bathrooms where the shower sits close to other fittings.
You'll find full height in both ranges: the practical shatterproof-PET Option HFW, and the premium toughened-glass Option HFW Silverdale.
| Half Height | Full Height | |
|---|---|---|
| Height | 750mm or 900mm | 1880mm |
| Best for | Carer-assisted & open access | Independent use & maximum splash control |
| Carer access | Easy — reach over the top | Limited — full enclosure |
| Feel | Open & spacious | Enclosed & conventional |
| Splash control | Good | Excellent |
Height is only half the decision — there's also the glazing. AKW's standard screens use lightweight, shatterproof PET, while the Silverdale range uses premium toughened glass in a smart grey frame. We compare them in detail in our Silverdale guide and standard range guide.
Whichever screen you choose, it needs a graded, level-access base to work. Pair it with an AKW Tuff Form or Tuff Form8 former to create the step-free, properly drained floor underneath.
